How to See the Invisible Beast: "Irbis" Association Holds Camera Trap Masterclass at VDNKh

A masterclass by the "Irbis" Association was held at the VDNKh pavilion as part of the "Custom for Special Purpose" exhibition. The event was itself part of a large series of 'reserve lessons' organised by Roszapovedtsentr of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and leading specialised experts.
At the beginning of the masterclass, visitors were immersed in the world of the snow leopard: participants learned about the predator’s amazing characteristics, as well as the main threats to the population of this rare beast. The central theme of the meeting was the technical equipment of the modern nature protector.
Specialists explained to the audience:
  • What a camera trap is and how it works.
  • Why these autonomous devices are essential in inaccessible mountains.
  • How exactly camera images help study the snow leopard and save rare animal species from poaching.
The culmination of the event was the presentation of current camera trap models. Guests saw and touched the actual devices and viewed exclusive footage from the wild, obtained by scientists during real equipment use. Spectators could see for themselves the 'hidden life' of the snow leopard and its neighbours in their natural habitat.
The "Irbis" Association thanks Roszapovedtsentr for the invitation to be part of the educational project at VDNKh. Special thanks go to our adult and youngest guests for their genuine attention, live questions, and sincere interest in the conservation of Russia’s nature.
