About the movie
Подробнее
This film is the result of three years of filming in the wild, several large expeditions, and unique footage from the life of the world’s most elusive cat: the snow leopard. The plot unfolds in the Altai Mountains, where snow leopards, rare and majestic predators, face the threat of extinction.
The plot follows the journey of a baby irbis, recently born in the National Park "Sailugemsky," who is named Tural, meaning "immortal" in the Altai language. This name was bestowed upon him due to the tragic loss of his siblings during the winter famine, leaving him as the sole survivor.
However, following the resolution of the threat, the baby irbis mysteriously vanishes from the sight of the National Park staff. It is not yet known whether he will return to his native territory of Sailugem.
This is the first time that the life of a snow leopard in the Russian wild has been captured in such detail. The film is an impressive and engaging account of the beauty of the Altai Republic. The protagonists of the film embark on a perilous journey along the snow leopards' trails, navigating the treacherous waters of the Argut River. Despite facing daunting challenges, the heroes persevere in their mission to safeguard the dwindling population of irbis.

The film’s premiere screenings took place in Moscow on October 26, 2023, followed by screenings in Kazan, Gorno-Altaisk, and Orel.
Russian President Vladimir Putin extended greetings to the participants and guests of the premiere screening of the documentary "Master of the Altai Mountains," emphasizing the project's role in supporting the conservation of the snow leopard population.
Dear friends!

I am sincerely glad that the premiere of the wonderful documentary film "Master of the Altai Mountains" brought together in Moscow a large, friendly team of like-minded enthusiasts: zoological scientists, employees of nature reserves, volunteers, representatives of public, charitable foundations and organizations and, of course, filmmakers — those who make a personal contribution to the conservation of the snow leopard population, who are inspired by the amazing beauty of the pristine nature of the Altai Mountains.

I would like to emphasize that in Russia the issues of ecology and rational use of natural resources are rightfully among the important national priorities. Programs aimed at the protection of rare species of animals are being implemented, large-scale research, information, educational and creative projects are being implemented.

In this regard, I would like to mention the significant and responsible activity of the Interregional Association "Center for the Study and Conservation of the Snow Leopard ‘Irbis'. In many respects, thanks to the tireless, painstaking, truly self-motivated work of the Association’s members, tangible practical results have been achieved in providing a safe habitat for this red-listed predator. Such important and demanded work deserves deep recognition.
I am convinced that the current premiere of the movie will arouse genuine interest of a wide audience, will contribute to the formation of a careful attitude to our unique natural riches among people, especially young people.
I wish you success in your noble calling and all the best.
President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin. The address is published on the Kremlin website.
