Snow Leopard, Tiger, and Leopard: Graffiti and Troika Transport Cards Appear in Moscow

A co-project by the Interregional Irbis Association, the Amur Tiger Centre, the Far Eastern Leopards ANO, the Russian Geographical Society, and the Moscow Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development has been launched to mark Russia’s Ecologist Day and World Environment Day, both celebrated on 5 June.
An image of the three big cats native to Russia has been painted right in the heart of the capital — on the ventilation shaft of the Kitay-gorod metro station.
The Interregional Irbis Association protects the snow leopard, while our colleagues focus on the Amur tiger and the Far Eastern leopard. Each participating organisation has its own ‘area of responsibility', but in the world of big cats — just like in the human world — success comes only through cooperation and collaboration. Interaction, shared responsibility, and shared hope formed the foundation of the graffiti and Troika card design. We thank Moscow Transport for their support and for the opportunity to show the city’s residents and visitors these beautiful animals. Special thanks also go to our colleagues from the Amur Tiger Centre for inviting us to be part of this important project.
said Daria Petrova, Director of the Interregional Irbis Association.
The educational campaign, timed to coincide with Russia’s Ecologist Day and World Environment Day, is a joint effort by conservation organizations and the Moscow Department of Transport.
Protecting big cats is not about safeguarding individual animals in isolation — it’s about conserving natural complexes and ecosystems. Experts worldwide have long placed big cats at the center of global discussions on sustainable development, recognizing that protecting large felines is an essential part of ensuring biodiversity, water security, climate change mitigation, and supporting the livelihoods of local communities. The Russian Federation follows the same principle in its conservation work, and this new graffiti — created for two environmental holidays at once — aims to once again draw attention to nature protection.
said Sergey Aramilev, Director General of the Amur Tiger Centre.
Alongside the mural depicting the three big cats, themed Troika transport cards have gone on sale at souvenir kiosks across the Moscow Metro. These cards also feature images of the Amur tiger, Far Eastern leopard, and snow leopard.
This project was made possible solely thanks to an alliance of like-minded partners. The Russian Geographical Society, the Amur Tiger Centre, the Interregional Irbis Association, and the Far Eastern Leopards ANO possess invaluable knowledge and experience in ecosystem conservation. Thanks to the Moscow Department of Transport, which has given us a platform to speak directly to millions of people, we can share this expertise and raise awareness about the importance of nature protection.
said Elena Gangalo, Director General of the Far Eastern Leopards ANO.
Edition size — 3 000 copies. You can buy this card at "Jivoe obsheniye" stands; at stores on Mayakovskaya and Trubnaya metro stations; in the Moscow Metro online shop; on major marketplaces.
